I am new to the forum so I could not start a new thread. this is the closest I could get to my problem area.

97 civic lx - d16y7 - manual - 167,000

I recently changed the timing belt and water pump. Since then I have had idle fluctuation/surge unless the fan for the A/C or Heat is turned on. with heat on full I have tried to bleed the system for 4-5 hours but it continues to bubble and the surge continues. Fan cycles normally and the thermostat seems to open as it should. I am using the proper funnel. I ran the heat on high. I thought for sure I had a bad head gasket but I have run a block test 3 times and it comes back negative. The car does not miss, overheat, or lose water. No steam or smell from exhaust. I have not checked the IACV or the FACV, as the problem started immediately after I did the water pump service I assume the problem is air in the system. I am pretty sure that my 97 model does not have a bleeder valve but I could be missing something. This is the first time in several years that I have been stumped to the point that I have had to refer to a forum for help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for the answers and I haven't found any. I feel blind right now but Im sure hind sight will be 20/20.

What were your bleeding procedures?

 

removed cap - engine cold
turned heat to full
added some coolant
started engine
continued to add until full
rev to 2000-2500 by hand @ throttle body
added fluid through fan cycles.
it does not appear to take a lot more fluid but bubbles have not stopped
mostly small minimal but occasionally I get large bubbles especially when I let off the throttle

 

I have also driven the car around for 30min.
no overheating or fluid loss.
idle is fine until you turn the A/C blower off

Continue the bleeding process.

 

I assumed 5 hours and 25-30 fan cycles should have done the trick. Definitely seems a bit excessive. Will keep trying for now. If anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears.
