what oil to use during breakin period of boosted car
I finally got my bottom end built for boost and was wondering what is the best oil to use while breaking the motor in. Also when can I go back to using synthenic oil. I have not been past 4 grand in the motor so far and have put on 400 miles thus far. I plan to change the oil at 1000 miles.
this should help you out...

Whatever you do, do NOT use any synthetic oil in the first 1000 miles. The reason being is that synthetic does such a good job of reducing wear, that the top ring won't seat.
Well, your first mistake, keep it under 4k so far.
when i broke my motor in... it was like this:
5w-30 castrol GTX and AC Delco filter (one of the best)
Day 1:
primed the oil system (cranked untill full oil pressure for 5 seconds) Started it up, and let it come up to a full 190 degree's temperature (disconnected fans) ...took about 15 minutes. shut it off, left it for the day.
Day 2:
Changed oil and filter. Started it up warmed it up to temp (fans connected) 190 degree's. Brought revvs slowly higher and higher with maxx revvs at 4k for 5 mins. (slowly increasing) Then proceeded to back the car out of the driveway. for the first mile i changed rpm from about 1,500 - 4,000 rpm then the next 4 miles 1,500 - 6,000 rpm and then from there ran it all the way to my (Low set) 8,000 rpm redline (don't want to overdo it when breaking a brand new engine in) and then let off the accellerator, and let the revvs fall down to 1,500 then back up to 8k and then down... did this for a few miles.. then stop and go full on hard accelleration from a standing stop - 80 MPH. So far i've gone 15 miles, engine feels and revvs GREAT and power has increased under same boost level, tremendously.
This method seats the rings VERY well. But be warned, you must be confident that you put your engine togeather with the correct rings, bearings etc. If there is anything that causes your engine to spin a bearing, or loose something else using a technique such as mine, then you build the engine wrong.
After i get to 20 miles, i will change my oil filter. and will change my oil at 100 miles, and again at 1000 miles, and switch to synthetic at 2k miles.
