Default Please post head codes from your Honda engines here

Members are often interested in identifying the head on their Honda engine by the head code.

HondaPartsHero has a thread here describing how to locate the head and block codes on your engine.

The list below combines and updates the head codes posted in these two related 2004 threads: Thread 1 and Thread 2.

I thought the large membership in this forum might further enlarge the list by posting the head codes of your engines. For example, my 97 Civic DX with a P2A-11 head was a new addition to the list.

Hey Ron, were you not aware of the list in Misc/Tech forum for D series?

https://honda-tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=786093

This may be handy so people can cross reference casting stamps between motors (i.e. D15B7 has same head specs as the D16A6)

I'll have to check my D16A (there is no number after the A, it's just "D16A"), which I was told was the JDM equivalent of a D16Z6.

Did the special edition 98 CRV have a B20B block?

Looks like D15B2 and D16A6 would be my speculations. What's the year stamp on the pm3-3? the pm9-3 is from a 91 as it's year stamp is '90.

Yeah same gig, the PM9-6 can either be a D16A6 or a D15B7 as the only difference is the cam shaft on the two. You will have to measure the lobes of the cam shaft to know if it's the A6 or the B7.

I'm thinking being form a 91 car, the PM3-3 maybe the same gig as either B7 or A6 and will need to measure the cam lobes to know which one.

The ZC with the PM3-3 is from 88 and would have a year stamp of 87 if it's original. I believe by 91 (casting stamp 90) the PM3's were used for the A6's and B7's. There is a pretty good chance that since it was before 92 though that they are A6 models. Cam lobe measurement will confirm.

I thought I had seen someone say that the -X number was to indicate which casting station it was cast in. I can't find the tidbit right now, but that's what I recall reading somewhere.

Kind of makes sense, if they are casting in 4 different stations, and they find a problem with a head, they would want to know what station has the possible bad mold.

Or perhaps it's the generation of the mold it was formed in. You may have noticed that all PR3-3 heads came from OBDII cars and PR3-2 heads weren't found before 1992.

Subarus do this same thing. USDM STI engines have a 70X number in the blocks. 701 is 04-05. 702 is 06-07, 703 is 08+. The one I put in my Forester was a 704 I bought from the dealer two months ago, so I think that was the latest generation.
