Hi there. My issue that have come across is that my car gets to heat really quickly. It first started heating up when I was in line for emissions. So I just shorted the fan switch since my mines was malfunctioning. Kept her cool.

Then today I literally had the car on for less then a minute at night and was climbing up to operating temp. Still have the fan switch shorted. Going to replace the thermo and fan switch tomorrow.

Its a GSR by the way if that help. Also upper and lower hoses are about a
year old and I got a moshimoto radiator that is about 3 months old.

Any ideas on why she is heating up so quickly? Thank you for any helpful insight!

 

Is it overheating, or just getting to operating temperature quickly?

Nothing wrong with the latter. If it's overheating there's either a flow issue (blocked thermostat or radiator maybe a worn waterpump) or you're low on coolant.

 

At emissions it was about too but shut the car off. It's never got to temp that quick before. It would usually take about 5 mins

 

+1 on what sp said. I think you should check for coolant leaks and possibly bleed air out of your coolant system but if everything checks out ok and yu dont have to constantly put antifreeze in then I would start by replacing your thermostat since it is the most cheapest and easiest. If you wired your fan to stay on at all times, then the only thing left after the thermostat is your water pump. Unless your radiator fins are pinched to all hell

 

She hasn't gone up in heat. Is still staying in her regular temp but still have the fan switch shorted. Today on the morning it took about her regular time to heat up. I'll update after I've switched fan switch and thermo. Thanks for the replies!

 

Replaced the thermo and fan switch. Had her on for about ten minutes. Stayed in her regular temp. Still replacing the water pump and replacing timing belt. To be safe

 

Make sure you bleed coolant correctly as well. And if it doesn't overheat anymore, it's not necessary to replace your waterpump/timingbelt, but if you haven't done that in a while, then have at it.

That spill free funnel is great to have btw. I would recommend it if you work with coolant a lot. If you don't have access to one, just leave your radiator cap off. If your coolant is full, then some will probably come out. You could just drain your coolant some, then add if necessary.

 

Ok sweet. Also changed the timing belt and water pump. Now just to keep on eye on everything.
