Default Spare Tire Well Delete EJ2

Okay, so my trunk is pretty rotted out and work has been done on it before which is no good. A lot of seam seal and rot So I was thinking up creative things to do to fix it and be a little different at the same time. From the amount I have researched, I have not found much on this.

I want to delete the spare tire well. I know... "The well is structural as it is connected to both sides of the subframe". I plan on welding bracing underneath the trunk to the subframe like the picture with red lines.

The trunk will be raised up to the same level as the rest of the trunk. I know.... I know. "You're going to get a ton of drag with air getting stuck in the rear bumper". I have been looking at different ideas for diffusers and such to avoid that.

So I am looking for tips and contributions. I will make a picture journal of the process when I do it. The other two pictures on this thread just show some of the rot in the trunk.

I can only imagine how rotted the rest of the car is. Start looking for a better shell. Otherwise you'll need to be the pioneer here and learn as you go. The first thing you'll have to do is remove every bit of rust. And since rust is like an iceberg, you'll not know how much there actually is. Until that happens you won't know what you're dealing with and cannot go forward.

I have had the car completely apart and looked at all parts of it. The only other spot that there is rust is one tiny spot on a rocker panel.

So what possible suggestions could you need? This should actually be in Welding and Fabrication.

Thanks for moving the thread. I'm still new to the site. I am really looking for tips in materials, process, and other things I should be aware of as I do this.
