Default 95 Civic LX Sedan Rotational Noise

My 95 Civic that I just purchased a week or two ago (knowing it had issues) has a rotational noise that sounds like mud tires. The noise starts at around 25 mph and increases with speed. Sounds like it is coming from front end, but I could be wrong. There's no vibration or play in the steering wheel; in fact, you can let go of the steering wheel at 80 mph and it stays straight. There's also very little to no change in the noise when turning the wheel - it's hard to tell, honestly, because sometimes it seems like there is a change, other times not. If there is a change, it is a very slight one.

What it isn't:
Tires (brand new ones put on it with no change in the noise)

Front Driver's Side Wheel Bearing - I had my mechanic put a new one in it, although he insisted it wasn't the wheel bearing, as there is no 12 to 6 play in the wheel when on jacks. That still doesn't mean it isn't the passenger side, but I took his advice at the time, although I don't think he is very knowledgeable.

The mechanic seems to think it is a bearing in the transmission (automatic), but I am doubting it since the noise has no change when you go to neutral. Is the transmission still a possible cause? It is in otherwise good working order - shifts strong, doesn't slip.

Any help is greatly appreciated, as I bought this car as a gas saver to drive back and forth to work (1 hour commute), and the noise is about to give me a nervous breakdown.

Thanks in advance!

A better description of the noise would help, though I'm currently leaning toward bad wheel bearing.

Well, the noise is like mud tires - a roar with a slight thump, thump, thump. Another way to describe it is like a helicopter starting up. I honestly don't know how else to describe it. When I test drove the car, I thought the tires were cupped from sitting a while.

Is your car a 95 sedan with an ek dash swap? Otherwise it's not a 95.

No dash swaps as far as I know. I do know that engine isn't stock, though, because it is a d16y8 engine. So who knows? I'll post a pic of the exterior when I get back to my laptop.

Post the first 6 of your VIN. You most certainly do not have a '95.

A 6th gen dash with a Y8 in it and it's a 95? Not in the US anyways.

Haha! Afraid not. What are you getting at here?

Also, what did everyone think of the noise?

You have aroused curiosity. Your car was possibly imported from a different country.

Post pictures of the engine code stamped on the block and head code stamped near the header.

You have a 96-98 Civic, with a 96-98 dash, and a 96-00 motor, but you have a 92-95 LX VIN.

Basically, there's some fraud going on. EG8 was not a chassis designator used for that body style.

Which VIN stamp did you find 1HGEG8 on? While you're working on those pics for RonJ, also take pictures of the VIN stamp on the dash, as well as on the firewall. Block the last 6 digits with tape. Also, post a picture of the sticker on the inside of the driver's door frame. That sticker will have your VIN, as well as your manufacture year on it.

It appears the VIN on the transmission may have been removed, so that's up in the air. The first two locations in that image (the chassis stamps) as well as the sticker on the door frame are the important ones. Block the last 6 with tape. Take pictures. Post them. If you aren't comfortable posting them, feel free to PM them to me, or PM the full VIN to me.

For the record, I'm not trying to chase you down, or get you in trouble - I'm trying to help you not get into trouble later. If my suspicions are correct, a cop sees that, you're fucked. Receiving stolen property. Insurance finds out, you're fucked. Fraud. You try to sell the car, you're fucked. All of the above.

Honda Civic (fifth generation)

Trims available in the USDM sedan body style were the DX, LX (EG8) and EX (EH9), while the CDM models were branded slightly differently as the LX, LX "Special Edition" (1994–95), EX (EG8) and the EX-V (1992–93) (EH9).
