Default Which tires would fit?

I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX (4 door), and the recommended tires are 185/70R14. I would like to however put wider tires? The car is un-modified, and I would like to leave it so (i.e. the suspension etc).

Would anyone know:-

1) What is the widest tires (195/205/215 etc), I can fit on all four wheels, without any suspension modifications?

2) How much difference a 205 makes in comparison to a 185, in braking, accelaration, ride quality etc?

Thanks,
Danny

You can fit up to 225's depending on the offset of the wheels.

205 is 20MM wider than 185. Braking will improve due to a larger surface area of rubber. Accelaration should improve if the sidewall height doesnt change much and you launch. Ride quality should remain the same if the sidewall doesnt change much.

once again, this is a false statement.. The size of the tire connected to the road ie.. contact patch is only affected by psi of air in the tire, only the shape of the contact patch changes with tire size.
Secondly I wouldnt go any wider than 195 on a 5.5in wheel.

A wider tire would give my surface area on the road, assuming it is inflated to its recommended pressure. It should give 20mm more width than a 185, assuming that the remaining factors do not change, i.e. 185/70R14 to 205/70R14.

I was looking at the wheel sizes, and the Michelin X-One 205/70R14 will fit on a rim size from 5-7, whereas Michelin X-One 185/70R14s fit on rim sizes from 4.5-6.

Thanks!

PSI are you changing the weight of the car? NO,. Are you changing the tire pressure? NO,. As I said you are only changing the shape of the contat patch.

The 205s should fit on 5.5in wheels. Why do you not recommend anything more than 195s on 5.5 inch wheels?

Thanks!
