Feels like brake on when reversing or Transmission is slipping?
Help...is this normal?
Feels like brake on when reversing and/or Transmission is slipping? This is very noticeable when backing uphill. Maybe a 5 to 7% grade to backup my driveway. It starts out ok then feels like I'm holding on the brake. I then have to accelerate to ~2,000 RPM or better to keep backing up hill. Can hear a clunk when I shift back from R to 4D.
Transmission fluid is very high for some reason, about 1/2" or more above high mark hot or cold running or engine off. Fluid is dark but not the worst I've seen and no burnt smell. I just bought this and very concerned something may have been added to transmission fluid to improve shifting (Doctored to sell, as they say) Fluid may have 60K on it now, no records to indicate any drain and fills.
2000 Accord SE, 170K, 4cyl VTEC, Automatic 4sp transmission. 60K miles on dealer installed re-manufacture transmission. Car most likely has not been drive much lately, expect last three days about 80 miles total.

Warm up the engine and watch the movement from R to D4 and back to R. There will be slight loading of the mounds, but there should not be any jumping or clunking, if so the mount(s) may be broken. If the mounts are worn/broken when placed into R the engine will want to rotate forward, with the added load of going up a hill this may put the axles in a bit of bind increasing load/throttle demand to move the car.
Thanks, I'll take a second look at the mounts. But my first inspection show all good with mounts, brakes and CV's. This time I'll have a helper and a good flash light.
? I've not driven Honda's much and was wonder if they just have some unusually weak reverse. IS this the case or do you find the Honda transmission to be the same as most cars in reverse?
?? It seem to change a little bit from better to worst, is this a bad sign?

Well mounts seem good to me, not new but not broken. Engine moved a little bit but not excessive and no clunk while shifting back and forth. Just have to see what happens.
