Default 91 B16a civic

Hello I am new to this forum. I have a 91 civic hatchback. I just dropped a JDM b16a into it. I am trying to learn how to work on cars and thought this would be easiest to work on and learn on. Any information will help. I am trying to make this little car go fast.

Since you haven't been here before, you should know how people are going to respond to a thread started with only 4 sentences and no pictures.

The questions right off the bat will be:

Budget?
Purpose?
Expectations?
Where are the pictures?!?!

Well as is, the car is at its most stable form besides stock specs with the JDM B16a swap. 24 years ago, it was a pretty quick car, and still is to this day to a point. Everyone has their preferences but there is only so far you can get your b16a as far as performance. My suggestion is to not waste money on bolt ons and look for other means such as turbo. If you go turbo, then you need a better fuel pump, injectors, tuning program, upgrades internally, a long geared ratio tranny, and a hell lotta crap as far as suspension and traction. Looking at a lot of crap. If you stick with bolt ons, and try to get work done all motor, as far as I know, you can reach close to 200hp. But I haven't done any of this myself. I rather like the motor stock with i/h/e as I like the reliability. This by no means is the info you requested, but this sums it up as very minor explanation. You need to pull out the $$$$$ if you want any honda engine fast and a reputable tuner who won't blow your stuff up. But in the end, if you do everything right, you'll have yourself a nice fast car for whatever meets your desire. You can make Honda's go faster than most cars these days for less money. Not trying to make Honda's look like gods or anything, but its been proven again and again. Just don't be one of those ricers running through the streets like you're hot stuff with nothing to back it up and giving Honda a bad name. At least you have an engine swap though lol, thats a start

Most bolt-ons won't make a noticable difference. You need a lot of high quality bolt-ons and a great tune, and really should bump compression up. I'd stay out of it until you learn some things. Or, if you REALLY do want to go faster without spending a fortune...

get four of these
Amazon.com: NGK BKR7E Standard Spark Plug: Automotive Amazon.com: NGK BKR7E Standard Spark Plug: Automotive

get one of these http://www.jegs.com/i/NOS/741/07005/...5TsvhfcILw_wcB

keep it jetted to 50 and no higher. it will be faster than if you dumped several thousand into it, since you have little experience. Or, just spend time in the "scene" as people call it. Check out good blogs (speedhunter, the chronicles, etc), read in forums, look at parts, get obsessed and research every little detail of everything you like involving cars/honda, maybe take an auto class locally or online. Learn to love the cars for what they are. I love my civic no matter how fast it is. It's just fun to drive and old and interesting and working on it is like meditation. It's stripped down but neat, simple, and I feel this soul bond with it that you just can't describe with words.

Usually the tech section requires tech or at least a question/build.

I posted some Pictures. Thank you RanCRX. I was planning to turbo my civic. I just know there is some preparation in doing so. I have been getting my parts from NOPI. Would that be a good idea to get the Garrett turbo set up from them? I have read Garret is the best way to go, he was one of the first makers of turbo chargers. Im not going nitrous. I have been reading about a bigger block, bigger pistons, valves, cams, headers, throttle bodies, fuel injectors and much more. I just don't how these parts work and how I would go about doing so to build this car. I plan to work on the suspension first then the power. I had a street bike and they are very dangerous. So I bought a small car to try and fix up to learn how to work on a smaller car, smaller engine then work my way up when I get the understanding of everything. I have already learned so much. A lot more than I did before I did the swap. I would love to learn more. I found this site and it looks and seems very helpful. The knowledge comes from people who have experience with working on cars. Thank you for your responses, it helps.

Just keep searching the threads here and google for whatever you are thinking about. Also look at some peoples builds threads to get a good idea of each different route people take to make power. Then you can sum up your expenses and the parts you want, build it and find a good Honda specific tuner or a good tuner in general

It seems he isn't making the mistake of asking without searching, but wants to share that he is actually searching. Probably excited and whats to talk about it.

@RanCRX How much do you have saved up already. How much per week can you put into saving. What is your timeline of actually getting the funds? I am currently out of my saved up money so, my current budget is between 1k and $500 per week. Which means I should have my sway bar, and suspension in about 2-3 weeks. I'll start saving again once my car is on the road. Once I save 10k, then I will start thinking about my turbo setup. $10k is my number since I'll probably go with high end parts for my setup.

@whited Well, recently I just bought a 14 370z, so I been pretty busy with that lol. Not giving up on my CRX though since they are becoming very rare. Can't find them at local and 1 hour away junkyards.

I'm currently restoring it little by little. I swapped in a b16 longblock from hmotorsonline just recently, now I'm looking into tires and a rear camber kit. Also gonna replace the lca bushings while I'm at it.

But before then, I have to warranty the axles and replace the tensioner pulley and water pump. Then I need to find a few things for interior, like the climate control front panel repair and etc. After that I gotta fix some dents and prep for paint.

It's a long progress over time. The last thing I'm worried about is performance. Know what I mean lol
