Default Chris Cashen FIS 62mm wreck (vid)

Hope its ok to post.

I just hear complaints, at least in our area, about the need and expense of safety equipment. Hopefully he will chime in but he said he was glad he had the safety stuff in place and was the reason he walked away. Glad hes ok. Was scary to watch in person. Drivers side slicks blew.

Wow, glad the driver is ok. You are 100% about safety equipment. Thankfully, this car had it. Good luck on the rebuild.

It almost looks like the slicks make contact with the fenders causing it to turn just enough to lose control.

Keep re watching. Looks almost like a 3-2 shift was initially the cause

The cars front end dove hard each shift so it most likely cut the tire. Just my opinion.

Yep that is what happened to me, my car dipped and cut the slicks, I did a 180 but saved it from the wall.
It's hard to tell 100%.

I posted same on cliffs IFO page. looks like a stock front end and front dips hard (either 3-2 or just front end diving after a hard shift) I assume its a stock front end. (cant really tell but doesn't look like a wide front end of any sort)

It really sucks bad to see this . I'm happy the driver is fine though . Safety is of the up most importance . I think every racer out there knows what can happen but often skimp on safety equipment . It would be nice to know exactly what happened though .

Broke an axle or maybe cut the far side tire?

Ouch. Glad the driver is ok.

Wow. +1 for saftey gear and great to see the driver was able to walk away. Super sucks man at the beginning of the year. Anyone know the driver?

I watched the video the first time and thought it may have been an axle

Then I watched it again and ruled that out and thought the slick blew off the tire

Then I paused right before it veered and saw the back two tires off the ground significantly and feel the only thing that would do this is the trans locking up or 3-2 shift.

Be interesting to hear what happened. All the best for a speedy comeback.

The driver said on facebook he lost a slick at the 1/8 mile

The rear comes off the ground because the front end dove due to losing a slick. Passenger rear lifts because driver front airs down.

The reason the tire came off the wheel is because during the spin the bead popped, even with rim screws.

Driver slick blew at about the 1/8th. Not sure why but pretty positive it wasn't from touching the car. I had been checking them after each pass this weekend to make sure it wasn't rubbing as we'd just changed to a wider rim and they looked great. I tried to counter it but I was pretty much along for the ride at that speed. Previous pass was 9.67 @ 160mph with a 120mph 1/8th.

We worked extremely hard over the last couple of months to get this car ready for the season, I'm heart broken that it had to end like that. I'm very thankful we follow the rules and had all the proper safety equipment in the car. When it smacked the wall I definitely remember my helmet hitting the window net and my harness holding me in the seat. Walked away with just a slightly stiff neck which I'm sure even that would've been worse if I wasn't wearing my neck brace.

Some that were there saw my wife who is just a few weeks from giving birth to our daughter try to run in a panic to the car and then later taken away in an ambulance. Just want to let you know her and baby are fine and I still have to wait the few weeks to meet the little one.

We'll see what we can save from the old car and have something new in the works soon. Thank you all for the concern and support.

To end this on a positive note - First pass off the trailer at the event, and last full pass the car made:

Yikes that looked like a hard hit. It was a relief to see you get out of the car on your own and walk it off. You can replace a car but you can't replace a person. This is why safety equipment is so important.

Awesome to hear about the Mrs., sad to see with the car, but glad you are OK. I honestly think that is why my wife never comes to the track to watch me race. But I also show her these videos all the time, showing her that proper safety equipment and following the rules will save your life. She sometimes looks at me like I am crazy, but there is also the point of my family and safety comes first, and she gets that. Good luck on the new project. FIS is getting very interesting.

Sorry to see your mishap. Good to see that you made it out unharmed. Curious to know... were you running innertubes in your wheel/slick setup?

No innertubes.

Looks like entire turbo kit is toast other than wastegates and bov.Engine appears to be in great condition. We'll pull the trans apart to see how it did next week. 3 of 4 wheels are dead. Front rims were less than a week old

Have you determined what exactly happened ? We know the slick blew but why ? Debris on the track or did it hit the body ? Glad you are able to salvage some of it .
