What is the actual MPG increase from F22b2 to F22B1 vtec
I have been looking for this for a while. The consencus is that the f22B1 vtec is for gas mileage more than performance. I have looked on a ton of sites where they list MPG's for Accords of diffrent trim levels and I have not found anything concluisive. I have a pretty good grasp on what the swap from F22b2 head to F22B1 vtec head entails.
The reason I am considering this is I just picked up a 95 lx wagon for the wife. It has 83k and is all original. I am not looking to make it into a sports wagon, just looking for more MPG for her car. The head/ecu swap to run F22b1 vtec is pretty cheap, pluis it is getting close to time for a T belt/w pump.
If I want to go fast, then my 96 Prelude w the JDM H22 and 5sp lsd does great.
I got 33.1 mpg on the highway the day I bought The wagon. I thought that was pretty good, but I dont mind getting my hands dirty to get even more.

33.1MPG in a wagon sounds pretty damn good to me too. I'm assuming you are talking about U.S. gallons and not Imperial.
I would leave the engine alone. Now if you want, you can try an upper grille block. I have noted a .5MPG increase by doing that on my Coupe.
If your wagon has a roof rack and it is not normally used, remove it.

i'm getting about 33-35mpg in my 95 EX with 196k on it. getting that in a wagon is pretty nice.
what is this upper grille block you speak of, mad mike?

Where the upper grilles is to the radiator directly below the front of the hood, between the two headlights. Block that off. That will increase MPG by ~.5MPG and seems to keep the noise down at higher speeds. Front end seems to stabilize better at highway speeds as well.
I do not think there is any substantial change in mpg between the vtec and non-vtec. The f22b1 benefit comes in at high rpm, where you get better fuel economy at high RPM after vtec kicks in. I drive my car like a grandmother, shifting at or below 3k RPM. I rarely go above 3,500 RPM and ocassionally 4k RPM. I get 30-31MPG on the highway. Really I get down to 28MPG sometimes. My running average is around 30MPG for highway driving though.
According to my Gas Buddy app, for the past 35k miles (2 years), I average 28.44 MPG with a mix of 25% city and 75% highway driving. My maximum MPG is 33.6 and my minimum is 19. I have no idea what happened. I freaked out at that 19MPG. I do tow jetski and motorcycle trailer from time to time though. I average 27MPG when I am towing.

I just got my mixed driving MPG and it went down to 23. I hope it is a fluke. Jumping from 33 hwy to 23 mixed seems pretty screwy. I wasn't loaded, no full throtte takeoff's, no roof rack.
Now that I think about it, I put the tires/wheels off of my Prelude on it. The tires on the Accord are now 205/55/16 as opposed to the 195,60/15. There is definitely more meat on the road.
The wife made a trip of 2+hr road trip with some city driving today. I will check it again tonight or tomorrow. 85 octane runs around $3.30 here in Colorado.
What size tires are you guys running?

Are the tires properly inflated?
How much heavier are the new wheels to the old ones?
A 'sticky' tire can decrease mileage/increase rolling resistance.
Rolling on bricks and a slight alignment issue may not matter as the tire scrubs it will not drag, where a sticky tire will drag.
Wider tire/wheel will increase wind drag. This can be reduced by adding a lower air dam or wheels spats in front of the wheels to divert wind around them.
