A while ago my car a couple of times would overheat after an extended period of driving (like an hour give or take). Normally I don't drive this long on a daily basis.

Now the issue seems to be a little more persistent. Putting the heat on full blast normally buys me time until I get home (normally; tonight when I was coming home from a friends house the car started to overheat it didnt help too much). I checked my fan and it seemed to be working fine, so I crossed that out of the possibility of issues, even though if I drive fast enough the car cools down a little.

I don't notice any coolant leaks but I do notice I have to keep filling it up every once in a while. My guess is that its either a thermostat (which I doubt) or the radiator is almost done for (leaning towards this). I doubt its the water pump but I'm willing to guess anything at this point.

Any suggestions? Car is a 1.6 honda civic.

How long has this been happening? When a Civic engine starts to overheat, it's time to drop everything and fix it. Otherwise, you risk converting a simple problem into a huge one.
If answers to these^ are yes, start by pressure testing the cooling system to check for leaks. If none is found, replace the thermostat, bleed the cooling system properly, and then go from there.

I have been topping it off a bit more lately, I don't notice any leaks however. I'm gonna change the thermostat anyway once I return the aftermarket one and get OEM, and bleed the system.
Fan turns on once it gets about halfway, doesn't help much though. If I drive fast enough it'll cool down to normal.

If you can't find a leak and you are topping up regularly and you don't smell coolant in the car when you run the heater, then you may want to try a block tester test with the magic blue fluid.

A compression test can also provide helpful information.

Also knowing how the oil looks and the coolant looks is also helpful. If either look out of the ordinary it could be insightful.
