Identify part of ignition switch
Hey everyone, I had a problem the other day with my car which i suspected could be a problem of the ignition switch, but I need help identifying a part. When I was taking the thing apart, there was some small cylindrical piece that dropped out of the bottom of the mechanical portion of the switch assembly. Is this piece necessary for even starting the car? I ask because when I got the car towed, it wouldn't even crank, and this is the only piece that I didn't reconnect. it had either 2 or three wires coming out of it and going back to the mechanical part of the assembly. Sorry if my terminology is really messed up. I really don't know much about cars, but I m attempting to learn
I have never heard of anyone taking apart an ignition switch and fixing it. Either pull one from the junkyard or pick up another from an auto parts store that has a brand name on it.
They have a lot of small parts in it, one of which is a spring that is really hard to put back together as I have seen myself.
If you want help with your underlying issue feel free to throw us a question.

So if that's the only part that you're missing, and the car doesn't start. Maybe you should re-install that part?

I don't see anything remotely like what you're describing, so you probably cannot get that specific part replaced and would need to buy an entire assembly.
