rear pads not contacting whole rotor
Hello,
2007 Civic EX (110,00 miles)
I just noticed that the rear outboard pads which are about 1/4 in thick, on both sides of the car, are not making contact with the outer 1/2 in of the rotor. The rotor is shiny except for the outer half-inch, or so. Braking seems normal.
Could it be that the pads are not the correct size? Or, is this normal?
Thanks,
Richard

rgar98,
This isn't exactly a normal condition, but it isn't due to the wrong sized pads either..
This is typically caused by a worn or poorly lubricated brake component not engaging the pad completely, OR because you have had the rotor OR pad replaced. When doing a brake job, both the rotors and pads need to be replaced together, or it will cause this uneven wear condition.
My best idea would be to replace both your rotor and pad on both sides of the car.
