Default motor swap shift linkage

i have a 89 hatch that i just installed a b18 in. i used innovative mounts steel mounts and there shift linkage. motor went in straight away but the shift linkage does not put the shifter straight in the tunnel hole. the shifter is moved to the back of the hole and sites at an angle to the drivers seat.
IS THIS NORMAL?
also the shift pattern seams to be at a angle not straight back and forth lake normal.
thanks for any insight you guys may have.
does any of this make since or do i need to reword it
