Purchasing a 2006+ CRV: how to tell if it's awd or not?
Hi all,
I'm in the market for a 2006-2009 CRV right now.
Is there a quick and easy way to tell if it has 4WD from pictures or trim level (eg LX/EX)? Or do you have to physically look under the rear for a transfer case?
I tried searching, but maybe wasn't wording my search right.
Thanks in advance.

If it has stickers stating it does then it must right? Don't short change yourself - Do it on all fours (LOL pun intended) and look for yourself.
Less than half of used car listings even mention if the CRV listed is 2wd or 4wd.
Was hoping for some tell tale sign to aid in sifting through ads.

Thanks for your response.
It's easy to check to see if it has a differential between the rear wheels. As stated, they usually have AWD or 4WD stickers or emblems on the back hatch/door.
If you can get your hands on a vin, you can run that by your insurance website and it will tell you whether the car is 2wd or 4wd. A bit more time consuming, but at least you don't have to drive out and look at the car.
Anywho, my point was even if it is RT4WD / AWD they could have had issues with a part in the drive line and pulled the propeller shaft (drive shaft to the rear differential). It is VERY common with cheap asses since the parts are pretty expensive to repair.
A VIN check is a good idea but most people treat it as if it were a form of gold. This is even more common when the vehicle has a bad history be it theft, wreck, flood, or some other major issue. Due to the design of the dual pump rear differential hybrid being a self contained unit there is no way to know aside from the stickers/emblems at first glance. The only way to 100% to verify is to look under the car to make sure the parts are still in tact.
There, I hope that response satisfies you Sir.

My response was calculated while teasing you a bit - sorry, I was in a good mood.

Point taken. I Will physically check for prop shaft and transfer case. Your response was very helpful and appreciated. Thank you!
the VIN can tell you if it's 2 or 4wd.
'06 4WD will have and RD7 in the VIN and if it's 2WD it will be RD6
'07-'09 are RE4 if 4WD and RE3 if 2WD
