Help Blow Engine Replacement 96 Prelude SI
Hi there, I've got a problem. Recently, I purchased a used engine h23a1 dohc non-vtec to replace my blown motor. It's has a gold top which I suspect it was custom painted. The guy who sold it to me said it was off a 96 prelude, but now I'm wondering if it's from the late 96 model. My lude is the 93-96 model SI also with a h23a1 dohc non-vtec. My mechanic says it can't be installed because there's no room to install the crank sensor. Does anyone know what's going on? What options do I have at this point?
huh? What happened to the one that came on the new engine?
They are the EXACT same engine... Both A1's...

The replacement h23a1 is likely from a 92-95 which have an oil pump that doesn't have the places for the crank sensor. You will need to pull the oil pump off the old engine and swap it over to the replacement one. However, considering you've been lied to already from the old owner I would do a compression test on the replacement engine before swapping it in just to be sure it's not junk.
You will also need the crank timing pulley from the old engine as well as to swap over the front balance shaft pulley. The crank sensor and fluctuation sensors read off of each respective pulley.
