Default Looking to build

Starting my own build for the first time. Usually I get to what to put where and just do it. So now I'm going out on my own. Doing my own build in my own car.

Looking for some insight on where to start. Not a fan of VTEC and don't plan on turboing. Looking to go all motor.

Set a budget and a realistic power/performance goal first. Then start thinking about how to meet that goal. See the stickied dyno thread for ideas. Don't write off VTEC too fast. Its the closest you can get to having your cake and eating it too on an all motor build.

Vtech, vetec, vtek, vtec. Seen it all now.

Basically the key to unlocking hondas true power potential. Why do you dislike it? Do you fully understand how it works and the advantages it gives?

Right! I forgot that a typo at three in the morning makes a difference in what it does or whether I want it in my build or not.. My apologies..

I'm building a Non VVTLEC engine. If you want to call it what it actually is..

I do and its not that I dislike it. I just want to build a motor without it. Not looking to build a 9 second car here y'all. again my appoligies for the 3a.m. typo..

I think one of the real limiting factors youre going to face with a nonvtec head (besides airflow) is the rocker arm design leaves much to be desired at high rpms. That isnto to say it cant take it, but I have heard that they like to eject themselves above 8500-9000+ rpm.

However, the current highest hp stock sleeve non vtec engine I believe is revving out to 9000+ without issue.

But if your goals are modest then theres no reason not to pursue a nonvtec build. Just remember that dollar for dollar itll make a bit less power than a vtec engine will in na form

I love the hypocrisy within this site, we can choose when we want to slam or forgive people for their typo's.

Anyways... What is you purpose for no vtec? Just to say you did it, well its already been done; many times.

I personally enjoy having good low end power, and a healthy idle; while still retaining great top end power.

I'm just finishing up an all motor ls. Not sure where your starting if you have a motor or not but you cant argue with a little displacement. B20 with pr3 or itr replica pistons. Crower 403 or 404 cams Brian Crower stage2s are in between those. Blox intake and the basic bolt ons should get you 160 to 180 to the wheels depending on dyno and tuner and a million other things( its just a number) head work or a p8r head will get u more. Hope this helps some

The first part is deciding what your budget is . . . from there you'll have the best understanding of how to get to your power goals.

I'm glad to see another no vtec or however you spell it, build, everyone seems to want to build the same thing, I'm building a vintage BS series (early A20) old school build, no computers,no fuel injection, nothing, just big carbs, cam, header, ignition, head work, etc, the way it used to be done

This ought to be some inspiration this is an 86 prelude, making 243 horse on the dyno, 10 psi, on a rough tune, with bad lower end bearings, they have been fixed since then, as well as the idle, this is on the original single cam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COb-e...ature=youtu.be

LOL... get all uptight cause we give a guy a hard time jokingly about misspelling a word. At least I was saying it as a joke. Jesus. Pull the tampons out.

I was just saying 3k in a vtec motor will net better performance than in a non-vtec motor. Better gas mileage and be a better DD IMO as well.

I agree 100%. If I was gonna have an na daily it would be vtec. I got a deal on a built ls head and im going boost with a 350-380hp goal so vtec for me wasnt needed.

you can make more power with FI, but there is something special about carbs, a lot of that is lost on cars today. sound, smell, everything FI just isnt the same. You either love it or you hate it, it's a good choice if you enjoy tinkering with things

biggest thing I love about carb engines is the smell. I'm not on here to build a 700whp D16. I wouldn't have any questions if that was the case seeing as Bisi has the entire shopping list out to build that engine.. I want to do my own thing no matter how i spel it

Well, youre gonna want to start out with a platform and the engine in mind. Take it from there.

So a '91 CRX budget build? Easy, DOHC ZC. Doesn't require fancy mounts or anything else to shove a B into that CRX.
