Default Changing out springs on coilovers.

Here's the deal. I got GC's for a 01 GSR. The springs that they sent me aren't the compression I want. I would like to have 400f/350-375r. So do you think I could call GC and say hey would you guys give me a discount on some springs with the compression mentioned above if I sent you my spring I orginally got with my GC's from another vender.

Also with the stiffer compression I'm assuming that I could still go for the ride height that I'm currently at.

I don't know about a discount, but the springs are not very expensive. What rates do you have now?

I don't get it. I just ordered some Ground Controls and I called them directly. I said "I'd like to order some of the coilovers for a '73 Celica." We talked a little about my intended use (track and autocross, not daily driven). And I got a suggestion of the exact rate I was planning to order, 350 lbs. I had a choice between 7" and 8" springs, so I mentioned the possiblity of rally cross, and the 8" springs became the best choice.

For the cost of a long distance phone call I got exactly what I wanted, and it didn't cost a penny more than the regular price.

So, how did you get the wrong spring rates?

Finally, to answer your question... No, they won't give you trade in on the springs, however you can probably sell yours one of many places on-line and get $30-50 for a pair (about half of what new ones cost).

I have no idea on what rates I have now. Those little numbers don't tell me ****. Anyways That's probably what I'll end up doing, selling the ones I have now and getting the springs rates I want from GC or some other vendor.

BTW I didn't order them from GC.

Post the part number on the springs here and someone can translate them for you.

GCs are sold through other retailers. These sets usually have rates at the softer end of the spectrum.

wait a minute, youre worried about getting at the same height with another set of springs? dude, you have ADJUSTABLE spring perch, you can get at whatever reasonable height you want, nearly independent of spring rate.

Ok here's the deal. Right now the perch is pretty far down, therefore there is less compression. Now if I turn the perch up, i.e. raise the car, which I'll be doing soon, there will be more compression on the springs. And then I'll have a stiffer suspension setup. Follow?

Nope. The car still weighs the same. Regardless of ride height, the springs will be loaded the same, as the car weighs the same.

Interesting, never knew that. So are you saying that the compression of the springs will always me the same regardless of how much the spring is compressed?

I'm getting educated or OWNED. <---- hates that term.

The spring doesn't get compressed any more by changing the ride height.

The only way to change the spring rate (stiffness) is to change the spring.
