Default Electric window problem

The other day it was pouring down rain. After it eased up I cracked open the passenger side window. Once I got home I tried to put the window up with the master switch and nothing happened. I tried it with the switch on the passenger side door and still nothing happened. I went inside and about an hour later went out to remove the door panel to get the window up. Before removing the door panel I thought I would try the switch again. The window went right up. I thought I would just leave it up because I'm thinking the window motor is going bad. Today just by instinct I got in the car and put the window down. Immediatly I thought oh crap, but the window went right back up. It has worked fine the past 12 years I have owned the car up until now. My question is would I be safe letting the window down? I live in Florida and today it was over 90 degree's here. I do not run the air conditioner because my engine has almost 300k miles on it and I do not want to add the strain of pulling the compressor. It is very hot in the car with just the drivers side window open. Could it be possible that the motor got wet and caused the window to not work or am I right thinking the motor is going bad? Open to the thoughts of others.
