Pistons, LMA
Hi guys,
Two issues I need advice on:
1- I have a 98 JDM ITR and I'm replacing the valve stem seals with Ferrea vss, because the car stood for a long time in Japan before reaching South African shores, and they obviously hardened, resulting in a bit of smoking.
In the process, I'm contemplating replacing the piston type LMA with the revised OEM spring LMA with the machined base, but, cost aside, do I go for the oem Honda spring type, or the Skunk2 which is designed to the correct length, so no machined base. I've read some reviews about the S2 fitting in loose and because it doesn't have the base, the spring eats into the metal, etc, etc. I will be running a S2 valve train, with Blox P1's, i.e. pro1 equivalents.
Opinions?
2- On the 98 Integra TypeR, the stock piston is 81mm, compression height 30.23 and dome 5.96cc which yields an engine compression of 11.1/3 : 1
On a Civic TypeR the oem piston is 81mm, compression height 30.73 and dome 8.63cc which yields an engine compression of around 10.7 in a Civic TypeR.
I want to get a set of oem spec, but 82mm YCP Civic TypeR pistons and fit them in my Integra TypeR, which should yield an engine compression of around 13.2 : 1, but obviously will need to be run on an ethanol mix, which is a bit of a pain.
Or
Do I just get the oem spec YCP 82mm ITR pistons, and, along with a 2 layered head gasket, get a cr of around 11.7, and run it on 95 pump gas.
Other mods, if it influences making a decision, include a S2 Ultra street mani and 70mm Alpha throttle body, NepTune, ID1000cc's, etc.
Opinions, alternatives?
