Default B20v cam test, pro1's vs ddtech's

Test done @ Driven Performance in NC
Tuning/Install done by Darius

Setup is a budget built B20vtec, Nothing crazy, standard run of the mill shelf setup, 84x89 mild compression, 114 race gas, TypeR head, victorX manifold
Most people know that Darius’ dyno does read a tad low, the generally math is around 16-20whp less then most other dynojets in the area.
The cams werent swapped same day. Customer Original made 217whp pro1’s, Swapped in a set of DDTECH’s and picked up a huge gain. The pro1’s were dropping off rather quickly after 8500ish, On the dyno, they didn’t rev the DDTECH’s as high, Seems like they’d made a few ponies more on the peak then the pro1’s but from 5-8 they really shined up. Gains of over 25+whp in some areas over the pro1’s.

Pro1’s were degreed, DDTECH’s weren’t, they were dropped in with Derek’s Drop in settings.

Sharing the results, I know Derek is hesitating sharing any results because people think he has some “underlying" agenda, but I feel like progression should be shared, regardless most of the people who know him follow him on Facebook, his website and/or his DDTECH facebook page and they see the results already, but for people who don’t follow, this is one of many recent dyno results.

That part of the graph looks good, can we see the whole run?

That is the whole run, 3-9ish..

The car is a strict track car, with some "minor" daily driving, I believe.. Anything under 5K doesn't matter on this car really, You're seeing the entire thing, AFR's were the same, My cams took a tad less timing I believe vs the pro1's. Also required less clearance I believe as well. Pro1's were a great cam for the guy, he ran some super awesome times despite is ultra low dyno numbers, he just wanted to go bigger.. These are pretty close to my Stage 2 shelf profiles I have out.

i think he meant the whole dyno sheet picture with rpm at the bottom (a/f reading if possible) and from the start of the pull 3k to redline

like how you see a good dyno sheet...

nonetheless.. we saw pro1's decline at around 8200rpm too much the same as wat spawne has mentioned FTW!

That is one stingy *** dyno. Jesus lol. Thanks for the test results. I'll keep eyeballing his cams, and when I finally get to the point of "more" I'll pull the trigger. Keep up the work Derek. Also, I still have some "measuring sticks" if you're still interested.

wow i didnt know they peaked so early. thats barely more rpm than something like a ctr cam peaks. not good for having a nice long powerband

As long as the owner or car remains anonymous why not share more setup info. What header, injectors etc. I think the reason people get bent out of shape is when there is a lack of any details or tech and just "brand X vs Y"

it really would depend on alot of things...

but a pro1 is a decent cam... but u gotta keep in mind ... a 2liter is a 2liter...
so even with mild compression... that "demand" on the induction and exhaust is there...
it would prolly peak higher on a b18c or something...

on a b16a it can pull to 9.5k LOL

Yes, thanks
Just a standard dyno sheet. HP/TQ rpm etc.

Results would be more accurate if the AFRs were smoother.. Jesus. How much extra power is left on the table for both sets of cams? Judging by how bad the graphs look I bet there's a better tuner that can extract a lot more out of each cam

Afr, let alone ignition tuning. I know you can't run same ignition timing on both cams, but as long as both timing tables were optimized for both cams..... But thats what makes it a little difficult to make A-B comparisons. Because its not just A and B that we're comparing. I've retuned cars and came up with improvements and graphs that are more dramatic than this comparison, with no changes other than retuning the car. I'm not saying either cam isn't working better than the other, but that pro1 tune looks a lil weak, I'm pretty sure you can smooth out that crater in the upper rpm where the comparison of biggest hp difference is.

From my understanding, pull on the pro1's done, then cams dropped in, and tuned, thats it, I do KNOW they were making a race that weekend, so its possible that the powerband that matter was tuned, nothing more. In any case, I assume Rob wanted to just share results of something that was done, this was done a month or so back, the car has since gone to the track and is running MUCH faster times both et / trap then he was with the pro1's, he's having issues with axles now, where as he never had issues before..power is coming on much stronger and faster and i think he's trying to learn how to redrive the car so to speak.
