Default D16Z6 Sputtering in VTEC

94 Civic EX, i/h/e. I've been having this weird miss in my car the past couple of days. So I took off the the dizzy cap and saw that #2 cyl point was bent. So I replaced the cap and the rotor button and it got rid of the weird miss, but then I've ran into a new problem. I started driving the road to see if the cap and rotor had got rid of the miss, and just to see if everything was right, I got on it. As soon as VTEC kicked in, it started missing and backfiring like you wouldn't believe. I've never had this happen in a Honda. Anyone got any ideas?

I've checked the timing, it's perfect, that was my first motion to check. So I checked spark plugs, they are fine, only like 7 months old. The only thing I can think of is maybe Ignition Control Mod, Pick up coil, or wires. It's got to be something in the ignition right?

And oh, no CEL's

So it's only in VTEC? How's your oil level?

Oil level is right at full. Only ran about 1500 miles since last change. I'm thinking it maybe the wires, but not sure.

Thank you for that! Will test those out. I'm going to check valve lash as well, and see if any need adjusting, and also reset the ignition timing on the dizzy. We'll see how that goes and go from there.

Did the ohm and volt testing, everything came out good. Moving to resetting the dissy with a timing light. If it doesn't fix it, then I'm going to replace the ign control mod.

Okay, after talking to local mechanic I use over at Texaco, he told me it could one of 2 things, either needs a new ign coil or the valves need to adjusted. He was right on both. I went ahead replaced the ign coil, reset the valves, and set the ignition on the dizzy with a light and she purrs like a kitten now. Nothing holding it back. For as long as I've owned the car, 3 years, VTEC has never kick in as hard and ran that good.

Thank you guys for your input, it helped out a lot. I really appreciate the time and comments.
