Oem radio question
So I'm putting in the oem radio in my 91 hatch tomorrow and it has a aftermarket one in it now. So my question is will the plug in work with the oem ive never replaced a radio before fast Info would be greatly appreciated thanks.
You should be ok as long as whoever put the aftermarket radio in didn't cut the factory harness.
If your asking if the plug on the back of the aftermarket radio will work in your factory one no it wont

I took a quick look under the dash I don't remember any cut wires but would a aftermarket radio have a harness that would plug into the original then swap at the other side for the new radio? If that makes since
problem is, anything aftermarked is a theft item; a reason for a broken window in your future. also a reason you will have a smashed center console and your climate control panel will be broekn to bits too when they pry your aftermarket out with a screwdriver.
A oem, is not going to be theft item, especially a casette with am/fm only.
Also, a old junky broken looking one, OEM, that works is the best to deter theft.
what 4dr ef says, is exaclty the point I just said about any aftermarket is a theft item, whereas, like he says, nobody would want a oem.
kids steal the sony's alpines, panasonic, kenwood, pioneer etc only (back in the day even a KRACO was a theft item over oem). they don't steal oem.

The only reason I want to put the oem radio in I sim putting the car to the original state that the car came in. Just like off the showroom floor. Plus the car is in storage and only comes out on nice days.
bheinen74, if you are driving an 88~91 and simply worried abut the radio disappearing, then I have a surprise for you. The entire car is more likely to disappear than an $80 radio... unless you like in a crack-head district.
Like me, fortunately my spouse is a crack shot and the cameras and security lights are really good deterrents. Good luck with the install. Also if the aftermarket was installed by someone good, the radio will be secured under the dash from the rear, thats what I did.
