Hi, there's a local guy in my area that does automotive paint. I have a black EJ8 and the paint (BLACK) is in fairly decent condition. I'm very OCD and I want a fresh coat of paint. He quoted me 400$ to sand and re-spray it Black. Is this a good deal? Additionally, is this too cheap? I havn't asked what paint he uses, I'm not very familiar with what's crap and what's not. $400 will barely buy cheap paint and primer...that price is outrageous IMO.

 

So, would you suggest just keep the factory Honda paint job with minor faults?

 

Yessir, I think that would be much better than a cheapo respray.

 

lets put it this way... my clear at my cost, is some of the better stuff is 300 a gal... and my paint is 200 a gal.. and you will need at least a gal of clear and color to cover that car

 

Ah, okay. Well I appreciate it, I think I'll just keep my factory paint for now. If I do decide to get a good paint job, is there certain blacks that cost more? Or that are just way nicer looking? Thanks!

 

you should just keep it the way it is now

 

there are cheaper paints sure, stuff that isn't a factory mix and just off the shelf's are going to be cheaper but not by much. I use PPG and Martin Senior paints and just cost for material is still 400-700 depending on what I want to use. Most paint jobs that I do are 2k to 3500 for labor and material.
