Default 99 civic lx D16y7 swap to jdm D16A

I bought a jdm D16A with cut wires, how do i make my old wiring harness work from my D16y7 ? My mechanic buddy said Im not getting spark now as he tried to "trick the ecu " and splice some wires or something ? Im a newb to hondas...is there something that I could buy or do I need other parts to make this engine work in my civic ? Any help would be appreciated thanks !!

It shouldn't be that much different than another swap. You should have swapped the intake and exhaust manifolds from your Y7 to the D16A. Also should have reused your distributor unless the D16A used the same distributor plug. The splicing perhaps was for the CKF sensor by the crank. What is your year, make and model? Any check engine lights on?
