Default Average price on prepping a car for paint?

This will help me decide whether I wanna paint the car or go turbo. I already have someone that will spray it for $200 + materials, but I dont know how much prepping cost. Or materials for that matter. Help me out.

Depends on how much time / money you want to invest in the project.

I "think" a full prep entails

1. Removing exposed body parts that u don't want (ie: head & tail lights, linings, window moldings, etc.)

2. Mask off all glass and parts you cannot remove as carefully as you can. (this is key to avoiding overspray)

3. Sand the body down to the primer level (more if you're going to reprimer)

4 Re-primer, base coat, clear coat (hopefully in a clean enviroment free of dust and dirt.)

5. Wet sand (with 1000 and 1500 grit I think) to remove orange peel and smooth out the paint when it has cured long enough (unless you have an oven to bake the car in) and compounded the rest of the body in order to bring the luster out.

Again, it depends how well you want it to come out. That's my 2 cents.

First, if this is just a standard paint job with one coat of paint, don't waste your money, if this is going to be a 1-2k type of paint job then go for it. If it is 1-2k quality, look at it this way for nearly $400 maybe more, you are getting a excellent paint job, on the other hand $400 could be somewhat of a start for a step in the right direction of turbo, but not anywhere near it, unless you are going homemade turbo.

Im not saying I'll either have enough for a turbo kit or a paint job...just that if i get a paint job I probably wont have enough $$ for the Turbo kit. I know the pricing of a turbo kit, just not really very knowlegable of paint or any kind of body work.

The guy said $200 just to come in and spray it after its prepped nothing else. He showed me some of his work and its really good from what i can see...but Im no expert.
