Clunking noise when braking/accelerating hard or hitting bumps
I have a 1991 civic wagon with HSDS. I still have about 1/2 inch gap between tire and fender. Whenever I break hard or accelerate hard I hear a clunking sound like something hitting something. I took my front tires off and the fork connected to the coil overs only has like 3/8 to the drive shaft. I will get a picture of asap, but I am guessing this is what is hitting. Is there any way to fix this?
My car is not even low compared to half the wagons I have seen on civic wagon with stanced rims etc. Plus I never even adjusted the coils just bought them and put them on, then got an alignment done .I will have to look at it again.
What do you mean by check them? My motor and trans mounts are brand new for a EF with a bseries motor.
So I took my fronts wheels off and took some pictures of how close the fork was to the traction bar and drive shaft.

Also my 9k coils are in the front and 6ks are in the rear. Is this correct I was assuming most of the weight is in the front of the car front the engine and transmission, so you would want the stiffer springs in the front.

I had the same issue on my 88 STD.. Pulled the front wheels to take a look, noticed that the driver upper control arm (Skunk2 Camber Kit) Had a lot of play where the ball joint is.. Ordered a new one that is expected to be here on Thursday.. So hopefully this will help.. If you find out your issue, please let me know! Good luck!
Preload is adjusted at the bottom of the spring( where it sits) jack the car up and make sure the spring is not loose. It should only be hand tightened. Also check the top nut on the coil-overs. I have seen many kits come out of the box and this nut needs tightened. When the car is in the air grab the wheel and shake it back and forth, side to side. See if you have any bad bushings or ball joints. If your axle was hitting anything there would be marks on the axle or fork. HSD's are great coilovers btw....great choice !!
