How are you all protecting your rides during the winter?

Too many beautiful cars are being lost to NE roads each year as we use an absurd amount of salt. Of course the best answer is: don't drive! But that isn't an option for all of us..

Looking for any tips and advise. Thanks!

 

Washing the car as often as possible will help... Make sure you clean the undercarriage and the wheel wells as often as possible.

Claybar and a good sealant will also help to protect the paint.

 

Not all rust related but a weatherization check list so to speak


They make rust preventive lube for all over your car (Jig a goo)

Undercoat!!!

A good waxing before the snowy months

Regular washing all winter. (Every week is recommended) including the under carriage

Keep the interior clean to prevent condensation and trapping excess moisture that could cause rust.

Shin etsu grease on CV boots, Brake boots, window trims, and any other exposed rubber parts

Also a good idea to grease door handles(not the part you touch obviously) hinges and latches as-well so they dont freeze shut.

Avoid puddles when possible, they are collection points for road salt.

Drive further than usual behind other vehicles to avoid them kicking up more salt and sand on you than usual. (cant hurt)

If you can, avoid driving in the heavy storms when the roads are freshly salted

Clean your carpets regularly, they can get just as wrecked by salt as the rest of the vehicle.

Keep a few packets of "Silica Gel" in your trunk to absorb moisture.

Knock the built up snow and ice out of your wheel wells when you can. The longer it stays there the worse off it is.

Fix any rust you do have before winter, if you wait only on thing is certain. It wont get better...

Second undercoat and washing & waxing the car. Mine is a DD and I go out for car wash. So in winters the only practical wash will be when temps are above 0C for longer duration except during Jan & Feb, when it is impossible to do so.
