99 accord- where is this trans leaking from??
hey guys. Finally got my new/used trans shifting issues figured out but it has a leak. only while running but doesnt leak at all when shut off. it appeared to be from the passenger axle seal. it was wet all around the passenger side rear part of the trans. so i just swapped that out and its still leaking! is there anything else in that vicinity that would leak? I just cant find the source. you think the lucas trans stop leak is a good idea? or could that do more harm then good?
do not use that lucas stuff. im anxious to hear what you did to fix your issues seeing as your last thread you said you had the p0740 code and such. maybe that solenoids gasket or anything with an o ring you may have disturbed. vss o ring, main and counter shaft o rings. how you fix your previous shifting issues?

nice. I wish I was that lucky with my replacement on my accord earlier this year lol. besides the axle seals you have mentioned I don't know. perhaps someone who does will chime in. I do wonder if there is some kind of seal around the gear shifter mechanism where the shifter cable attaches.

If you used an aftermarket axle seal you must put a glob of grease on the inner lip of the seal or it will tear as soon as it's started up and it will leak. Perhaps not always but most of the time.
Honda seals come pregreased and don't need to be greased.

it was an oem one. i even took a bit of ultra black RTV and smoothed it around the outside of it for extra insurance. but its leaking exactly the same as it was before so I dont think its that. also axle seals usually seem to leak when the car isnt running as well which it does not.

ook I figure the rtv couldn't hurt lol and I suppose if I remove the couple bolts holding the metal cover on over the shifter mech that I will see the seal? how hard is it to replace?
Ok so this morning I jacked it up and crawled underneath again. Checked the shifter shaft seal and it was bone dry. Still appeared to be coming from axle seal. I ran the car while I was under it and no dripping. But then lowered it down and went around the block then checked underneath and it was dripping again. Called Honda and ordered a new axle seal. Hopefully this fixes it tomorrow
Ok guys, its been a while since my last update but i wanted to keep you guys updated. I put in a new oem axle seal and still had a leak. After being fed up because i couldnt figure out where the leak was coming from i got some lucas trans fix. Was nervouse about using it but couldnt think of anything else to do. Directions said to put in about half the bottle for smaller cars so i put in a little less then half. After about a week i noticed the leak had slowed down considerably. Last week after topping off the trans level again i added a little bit more of lucas to equal half a bottle total that i put in. Today while doing a oil change on it i didnt see any moisture at all under the trans. Drove it a bit and checked again and no drips. It appears the lucas has worked!!
