Default switching intake manifolds between d16z6 and d15b7

read that this is a good mod for the d15b7, to port match the head to the larger intake. I was told the d16z6 is the manifold I should use.

What do I do about the Intake Manifold Gasket if I port the z6 intake larger too? As in, not just port match the head, but rather port them both even larger edited to original post hopefully so it gets answered

is the d16y8 manifold any different? I imagine it would be easier to find.

concern 2: is this gonna negatively affect the d16z6 beyond loss of power?

3: just thought of this, are the injectors the same volume?

it wont hurt the z6, and without a tune, it won't help the b7 much. the y8 manifold is nice, there is controversy about the number 3 (iirc) runner on it being a different length and causing issues. the z6 is very very close to equal length runners. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/d16z6-intake-manifold-vs-d16y8-intake-manifold-2684919/

I sorta just wanna practice porting. I should prolly practice tuning with this junky d15 too.

After reading that thread, should a Y8 IM be preferred on a Y8 head, or would you see more with a Z6 IM on the Y8 head?

I'm sort of guessing the Y8's 3rd runner being shorter by design had to do with the Y8 head to even out flow or something.

And whats the best way to tell the difference between the Z6, y8, and b7?

I'm not sure where to look for stamps or w/e

most people with a y8 just keep its manifold. for my build, ill be using a z6 manifold/head on an a6 bottom end. i cant justify the possibility of running lean with the y8 under boost. read- http://www.d-series.org/forums/natur...-once-all.html as far as telling them apart, google image them.

Since no one has answered this question yes the injectors are the same size, as a matter of fact I think all the fuel injectors on civics are all the same size excluding the VX model I think.

The D16Y7, D15Z1, and D16Y5 have smaller injectors than other (modern) D series engines. Most D series engines have a 240cc/min injector. The Y7 has 170cc/min injectors, and the Z1 and Y5 both have ~185cc/min injectors.

/\ truth. and neo, nobody asked... lol. can you run the smaller injectors? yes, but with the 240cc ecu's, youll overwork them, leading to failure.

Eghatch9295, I edited the first post to include that question when I thought of it. I remembered reading that a few engines have different volume injectors, but I couldn't remember if the b7 did. I didnt wanna run the risk of blowing up good injectors by not switching em if I put the b7 I/M on the d16z6. I'm hoping just to find another Z6 manifold, though. Gotta check more junkyards

IV always used proper gaskets before, never made my own or anything so I didnt know what the correct way of doing it was.

thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm sure I'll have more questions before I'm driving the EJ2 around again. Then ill get to finish all the bodywork on the sedan. Hooray fixing windshield lip. Really looking forward to that..

anymore mods I should do the black car while the head is off? The compression already seemed high but I was thinking about bringing the head somewhere to get shaved anyway for good mating surface + bump in compression.

be careful with adding compression without a proper tune.

do you know if the OEM ecu in my 95 DX coupe is chip-able? I read so many times to use a p28 that its what I thought the right thing to do was. Its not like I have vtec though, so is that gonna be a problem?

Put D15B8 (92-95 CX) on that list of 180cc

yes, your p06 is chippable. you don't want to run a p28 on your b7. will throw a cel for vtec solenoid/pressure and keep you in limp mode. not to mention, wrong fuel maps, etc etc

I had a suspicion that it would give me a CEL. I dont want that, IV gotta get a dumb inspection sticker as soon as I get the car fixed. Mine expired a month ago.. Since I'm thinking of computer b/s now

which ECU chip has the best cost benefit ratio?

There is no "best chip". When you start looking at chipping, you should start with a basemap from a reputable company (I'm a fan of Xenocron), and use that basemap to drive the car to a professional tuner.

I'd rather become competent myself. My brother has been tuning his rotary engines for a while, I figure I can learn how on a d15, lol. Plus IV been takng tuner classes

thanks for the advice, ill be getting into this in a few weeks. Parts to fix the engine will be here this week/next week
