Civic LX uses EX brakes - what gives?
I just bought some front brake pads for my '11 LX sedan. They were too big. Went back to parts store with OEM brake pad in hand and it matched an EX pad exactly.
What's up with that?

I'm just as stumped. But I have EX pads on the front of an LX sedan with no problems.
Has anyone else heard of this? I have the same question posted on a dealers site so I'll wait and see what their mechanic says.

Same part numbers for the caliper assemblies. The pads have different numbers but I doubt their sizing is different.
Honda has rarely ever changed the size of their front brakes along different trimlines, except for the Si models.
I'm not understanding the shock? Why would the LX have different front brakes than the EX? They both use the same engine, drivetrain, etc. The only difference is about 50lbs worth of options on the EX, but that's usually not enough to force a completely different front brake setup.
Think about it...it would be expensive to produce that many different parts. Why not just spec them all the same and keep it simple?

The "shock" is that there are pads available for an LX that don't fit my LX. I have to use EX pads instead. It just seems odd to me I have to buy the "wrong" parts.
