I have a bypass valve, should I install it and where is the best place. Thanks.
Hey. I know, it is basically stock right now. I have a picture below. Anyways, I have an AEM CAI and I bought the AEM bypass valve for it. Here is the thing, underneath my car(97 civic coupe) there is a black plastic splash guard plate. Will this be enought to keep water and snow out of the filter?I am just hesitant on if I should actually cut the intake tube/pipe. Actually, could I just put the bypass valve between the 2 intake pipes? That would be alot easier. I know it is possible to lose some hp when cutting the tube/pipe, but is it really that much of a loss or even a loss at all?If someone could use the photo I posted and draw a line with paint or something to show me where the best place I should put the bypass valve, that would be great!!Sorry if this is a stupid question, but just curious on some opinions on the bypass valve and the best place to put it. Thanks again in advance!!

Just put it in between the two pipes. On my integra the bypass is in virtually the same spot anyhow (after I cut my one piece) It would seem tragic to cut another piece into that intake when it alread has a perfectly good spot. Another benefit to putting it into the spot between the two halfs is you can always take the bypass back off during the dry months without having to find a way to put your cut pipes back together. Just put it in place of the black rubbery joiner piece and call it a day.
I was just using the search option and found out something that I am wondering will work. Ok, I found out that using a bypass valve will cause you to lose "alot" of hp.
Anyways, can I cut the second intake pipe where the airbox was and put the filter there for rain/snow. I would have to get a new rubber sleeve and 2 more clamps for there, but would that be better than a bypass valve and possibly save more hp?I mean the two pipes will be sealed the same way as the others (all have a rubber sleeve and 2 clamps) so won't it virtually be the same-no hp loss?Sorry for all the questions, just a little hesitant and don't want to screw my intake up.
Thanks in advance again.

97sactols-thanks for the post, I didn't see it till after I posted my reply to my own post so if it doesn't make sense, I meant for it to go after my starter post. You have a good point though-if it will go between the 2, why cut it. That way like you said, I can take and move the filter from cold air to short ram.
Okay, I don't want to come off as an ***, but I used to live in Kansas and honestly, to answer what you should do with the bypass valve...return it and get your money back. You don't need that thing. You aren't going to "hydrolock" especially in Kansas. You don't get enough rain there and snow isn't going to play a factor either. The only way you will hydrolock a motor is if you run it into a pond or lake and let the thing run for a few minutes. If water is sucked into the intake (normal everyday conditions) it will be vaporized by the time it hits the throttle body. If you insist on thinking that you REALLY need it, then you can put it in between the two existing pipes.
jdmsol-Thanks for the reply. No offense taken. I think you have a good point. I will probably just put it between the 2 pipes if I were to install it, but then again I might sell it-probably not though just in case.
