A6 head, rebuild the stock core OR upgrade. 7200rpm
Hey guys, I am looking to get some cylinder head work done soon and Im not sure if upgrading is necessary. I have a stock D16a6 head that I pulled from the junkyard, the block was in mint condition, and the head looks quite clean.
I am looking to put this head on my budget vitara setup, goal of about 300whp and a reliable daily driver to boot. I only rev to about 7000-7200 on the street, Im not much of a person to really wind out the gears to the **** when just playing in the backroads. Would I be safe just getting the head "rebuilt" with a good valve lapping, check valves/guides and use all the stock parts.
I may run a delta regrind or even a mild other cam
If some valves or worn or guides need work, would that be when its the best time to upgrade? Im on no strict budget, but Id rather not buy a complete valvetrain if Im not going to need it.
So what do you guys think, worth it to spend the $700 on valves/springs/retainers/keepers?

For what you want to do, probably not.
Check the guides for wear, flatness of the head surface, and you can hand lap the seats to clean them up.
