Whats the best cable trans for a crx d-series
I have a 1990 crx dx with a d15b2 and a 1989 crx hf with no motor or trans and would like to know what trans would be best. I plan on doing mini me swap on 90. I bought a d16z6 w/s40 hydro trans because it was cheap and thought I could use head intake and whatever to do mini me swap or should I just put it in the 89 hf so lost.........wandering what I should do. I really don't know enough about all this to know what I should do with what I have and what I should go get.
Simply put, the higher the model, the better the engine/transmission BUT really it depends on what your end goals are. If you want to know what has the best gearing for ACCELERATION in general then the first part of my statement holds true aside from a mix/match gear set.
Do you know what the difference is between a cable and hydraulic transmission?
While the mini-me has one slight advantage over a full VTEC D-series I'd say don't bother since you have the entire thing. Put it in the HF.

The YS1 is a cable trans but would require an adapter. haha.
Just use the Si trans if you can find one. Or the DX I think. Both are decent. I agree with using the whole motor though.

In all honesty a JDM Integra ZXi ZC Transmission has the shortest gears.
realistically go with a CRX/Civic Si because you can ACTUALLY find those.
here are the final Drive ratios
CRX Si: 4.25
Integra ZXi:4.437
As far as engines, I would do full Z6 on the CRX Si with a cheap turbo set up if you wanted.

The best D-series tranny ive seen is a JDM ZC (cable) LSD transmission
But i think its kind of rare and pricey...
Depending what's your goal, transmission from civic/crx SI are great and easier to find.

Ok thanks for all the input guess I'll find a si trans for the dx but should I find one for the hf or just buy the hydro to cable conversion and keep the s40
What engine are you putting int he Hf?
I would put the Z6 with the hydro trans in there since it's already MPFI and because it has an empty bay already.
Then you can just leave the B2 alone. B2 motor isn't anything worth putting money into so why bother.

It would make life a hair simpler if you can get a cable transmission but I guess to make a final judgement I'd have to weigh the difference in cost of the cable transmission vs the hydro to cable conversion and possible mount differences (also note that there is no provision for the front mount with the hydro casing, not a deal breaker but just pointing it out).
