97 honda accord transmission problems
hi im about to buy a 97 honda accord the person im buying it from said it wont go past 30 and they think its the transmission is it worth buying and fixing or should i just past and it has 200+ thousand miles on it
Depends on what the problem is. Cannot internet diagnose it with so little info.
If the car is cheap and in otherwise good condition the 94-97 Accords is the best generation of Accord. Automatic?
Turn the car to ON, verify the CEL and D4 lights work. Turn the car off and look under/behind the middle of the glove box door. Pull down the TWO wire blue connector and jumper it with a wire/paperclip. Turn the key to II(ON) and look for flashing codes from the CEL and D4 lights. Record the blinks and determine what may be wrong.
If the car is an EX 2.2 VTEC, when the oil is low, or the oil pressure switch for the VTEC, or the VTEC solenoid is not working, the engine will not rev past 3Krpm. Also could be in a limp mode due to a fault in the system.

stay away from that accord. these trans issues have been popping up more recently. this is just my opinion, but at this point these cars are up in age and probably have 150k or more on the stock trans. if regular maintenance hasn't been kept up im sure the trans is close to being screwed anyway. not to mention these cd chassis' are harder to swap to manual then the cb.
take a look at the fluid if you can. if its black and burnt smelling, the damage has more than likely been done. it will need rebuilt. even if its just an electrical issue, if it wasn't fixed right away, the trans is most likely toast. its does not take long to fry a trans. no sense in sinking a bunch of time in money into something that is not worth it.
don't get me wrong, I like the cd chassis, but unless its manual already, forget it.
