CD5 H22a red top swap
Hi, i currently own a 95 accord ex and am wanting to replace the motor with the H22a red top. now i know the car is obd1 and the h22a red top is obd2, but i was wondering if its worth even bother to try and pick one up to have a Type R clone and change the vehicle to obd2 or just do a h22a obd1 swap sense the motors basically are the same price +/- a couple hundred $$$ and horse power is pretty close as well. I dont mind doing the extra worth just trying to figure out which will be better swap.
I know you have to do some work with the wiring -- theirs obd2 to obd1 conversion harnesses though -- if you have that f22b tranny it will bolt rite up too -- but from what I hear its not a great idea to do that -- wont really push the engine like its suppose to -- also your going to need a driver side mount from a prelude -- not sure what year though -- -- why not go with the f20b and save yourself some money I know that h22 type R goes for 1700 just the longblock -- form HMO motors opposed to 850 for that f20b --
ohhh and then theirs the ECU -- the one it comes with (dont quote me on this ) has problems just starting rite up -- your would have to get a prelude usdm one -- and that wouldnt push that engine rite -- so your next option would be -- hondata S300 I believe -- 500 dollars rite their -- without the tune -- or you could get a chipped ecu best bet -- sooo with all that in mind Im thinking f20b -- doing my this april --- on a 94 cd5 sedan --

I'd go with Neptune Demon over Hondata for any engine being swapped into a CD5. FYI, Hondata, Neptune and Crome are all based on a chipped OBD1 ECU. 
OP, I would look into converting the engine over to OBD1 if you do end up getting an OBD2 H22. ECU availability and tuning options are big factors for this swap. OBD1 is the way to go!

^^do what ghost and goose said about the conversion harness. not to expensive.
also the F20 has really no support as far as performance parts since it wasnt a popular engine here in the USA, my advice, dont get it. as far as the driver side motor mount, u can use the F mount, just have to grind the side down a bit.

Ghost, not to thread jack. On the tuning software is Neptune user friendly? I always assumed hondata because it's what they use in the shop. But maybe you can help me and everyone else become more convinced to not use hondata. What do you think it would cost to run a Neptune system?

Yes the Neptune software is very user friendly. In my opinion it is probably one of the easier pieces of software to navigate for a new tuner. As a complete tuning package it is also cheaper than Hondata.
Very interesting. I hate spending money on names so I usually try to locate something that is of equal value but cheaper. Or supporting smaller companies. Would you just street tune or ultimately have it dyno tuned?
Yepp you are deff right Ghost -- what im going on about is the differences between hondata and neptune for example -- their basically a stand alone -- you starting from scratch and unless you know what your doing your doomed to spend more money out the pocket-- and something like one from HA motorsports is already hooked up ready to go with a basemap-- as long as you do your homework before you buy your set, with a pretty good bang for buck ECU -- what you think?
The F20b is not the best engine to take to the top of a build -- true -- but its a great DD --and with all the bolt ons ( manual version) a good ecu, your be having a great ol time -- most h22 parts bolt on like headers --intake manifold -- you can use alot of f parts as well like clutch, flywhell, -- and for 800 bucks from HMO -- a proper jdm engine house -- shiiitt --thats what sold me anyways -- im looking for something like 200whp - more than that and im deff gonna get myself in trouble --
all goes back to you their teens -- deff has everything to do with what you want to achieve like accord said -- what are your goals and what type of money do you want to -put down

Hondata and Neptune are also not really start from scratch. There are base maps from which you can start from and others that you can purchase from reputable companies. AEM, Megasquirt and Motech are start from scratch based systems.
goose, hp goals is like 200hp really, im not trying to make some HP track monster out of this thing just keep it a DD and fun to thrash on every once and a blue moon. I have been thinking on just getting the fuel injectors out of an H22A sence there 100cc more with a honda data s300 but ill check in on Neptune Demon ecu as recommended by Ghost, it already has an intake and full exhaust as done by previous owner but i really couldnt tell you if it even is any bigger sense everything within the car was either rat f#@ked or just not done properly what so ever.
Also just recently found out that my 95 accord EX had a tranny swap from a last gen accord tranny code H2A5 so if any1 knows some1 with a spare P2U5 laying around that they would be willing to sell i would be greatly appreciated.
