Koni 1153 or 1213 for EK?
Hey everyone.
After years of lurking, I finally registered with the intent to get the community's opinion about rear Koni shocks for an EK civic.
Recently, I ordered the "Honda-Tech Special" from the Ground Control Store.
The invoice said Koni PN 1213 for the rear shocks. However, when installing them today I noticed the lower fork of the shock and the Lower control arm bushing did not align correctly. After some brief research, I found that GC had sent me the 1153 shocks for the rear. When 1213 are meant for the EK Civic. The shock forks I was sent are 10mm wider, as they are for the EG Civic which has a wider LCA.
I consulted with a customer service person at GC who said they use the 1153 for EKs, because it has "better valving." And that they will be sending me some spacers (which "should" have been included in my original order). Is it even safe to use these spacers? Doesn't it distribute the load on the LCA bushing incorrectly?
Which brings me to my question. Does anybody know if the valving is better? or even different? between the 1213 and the 1153?
Should I request that they exchange the shocks they sent for the correct EK Civic shocks? The ones that are conspicuously stated on the invoice, not to mention!

I'm not sure about the valving differences. As far as the spacers, when shocks were ordered for my EK race car, I believe they were for EG/DC2 fitment, and I needed to use spacers on both sides of the LCAs. The reason I got for ordering the EG/DC2 style shocks, were that you had a wider market if you ever decided to sell the shocks. You might want to also post in the 'Road Racing/Autocross & Time Attack' forum as they may have info, but might not look in this suspension & brake forum. - Jim
