Default Do I have to drain the coolant to replace knock sensor?

Like the title states, I have a 98 Accord 2.3 F23A motor and my knock sensor broke apart. I put it back together and it works intermittently but will throw the code and cause the car to run kind of rough. I just ordered the sensor and the haynes manual says it is located in a coolant passage, can anyone confirm this? I know Haynes are frequently wrong about stuff and I have searched and searched but all I can find is a few threads were people act like you don't have to drain the coolant. If anyone knows for sure it would be much appreciated, thanks. Also if the sensor doesn't come with any thread sealant on the threads as some do, can I just use my Permatex sealant?
