In the next month I'm going to help polish a set of wheels. My question is, since the wheels are already smooth and just have paint on them, if we use aircraft stripper and then just use a polishing compound and clearcoated them would it turn out fine?

I am not sure about polishing, but I know when I painted my mine, it was a definite must for sanding. I also found that steel wool works wonders. Gets it very smooth. You might want to try that.
