Hey guys, Couple questions about an R for sale
So I went and look at a 99 CW ITR for sale. It seems like a pretty good deal. I believe the car is clean of accidents etc. I wanna know that it is stock tho. The owner says it is altho as soon as a sat in it I noticed he had an aftremarket shifter. This makes me wonder abou the rest of the car being stock. What does the tail pipe look like?? can someone post a pic?
Also, is the trunk bar stock??
Anything else I should look for? I know most of the stuff on the car is stock, just a few Items I need to know about.
BTW, how do I know that the motor isnt fukked?

I think you need to do a LOT more research on this car before you buy it if you dont even know if the motor is "fukked" Do some searches, look some R data pages up.
Actually dood, I do know a fair bit about the car. I know it has extra chassis bracing but i never heard that they had a trunk bar. As for the motor, I can tell if I drive it (which I will) how it performs, but is there a way to know what kind of condition the motor might be in without driving it I.E. checking oil etc. What are they prone to that is different than a B18C1?? Where are the engine codes located and where is the VIN#. is it on the windshield??

Thanks guys. Is a compression test necessary?? Wouldn't I be able to tell from driving the car if it has bad compression?? I would assume it would be down on power.
Another question then. The car has an aftermarket short shifter, Can this hurt the transmission?
Also one of you guys said it has a standard rear tower brace. I didn't see one, but it did have the rear trunk bar (on the rearmost section of the trunk above the jack.)
BTW: CW = Champ white (color)

Rear Tower brace is standard.
and yes, do a compression test. Unless you've driven a lot of ITRs there's not way you are going to be able to tell this one only has 200 compression, etc.
I suppose this means that without the right tools ill be heading down to a dealership.
BTW, are the C5's more prone to loose compression than a C1??

and a compression tester is like 20-25 bucks at discount/sears/etc
Make an appointment and take it to Honda/Acura... It is fairly cheap when considering the headaches you could be facing in the future. Don't be stupid... I learned my lesson the hard way.
