Default shaving out roof molding

Hey appearance people, I posted this on the technical forum then I thought this might fit better here.

long story short: my molding or maybe just the clips are broken and rain leaks. Instead of spending a hundred bux on brand new molding/clips, I was thinking it'l make the car look nicer and it'l be cheaper.

have you shaven the roof molding? Or know anyone who has?

p.s. My car is an EH9 civic, 93 ex sedan

The molding on the roof is just a decorative cover for the roof-body welds. Rain should not be coming in even the moldings are removed.

'Shaving' it would involve some skilled cutting and welding and seems like a waste of time to me...

I've seen people fill the gaps with Bondo....please don't be that guy

Clean it out, seam seal them and get new clips from honda and reattach your roof guards. Do it the right way

evidently didnt read the "and look better" part.

IMO the roof molding is ugly. It cant be that hard to measure the gap, cut some metal, weld it in, and bondo over it. It'l deff improve the looks, and if I'm gonna be welding the roof and windshield lip, I may as well do other improvements while I'm ******* with it.

i actually dug up some pictures of it with the molding removed, so IV seen how it works now. I guess the fact that the clips are broke distracted me from that the windshield is the leak. I covered the molding, and poured water into the windshield's valley and it leaked in.

It will not be cheaper to shave your molding than replacing clips. Theres a good amount of labor unless youre doing the work yourself.
