First Gen automatic vs 5 speed
was up peps just picked up a 99 crv 5 speed i been wanting a crv for a while when i got serious and started looking i seen tons of automatic very few 5 speed and the 5 speed where a bit more expensive so i went for the 5 speed its a 1999 Red AWD. did i do the right choice whats pros and cons.
also i seen a couple of people that has put s2000 wheels on it does anyone know if they run the s2000 rear wheels or do they get 4 of the front wheels.

Keep the 5 speed. Its a great transmission and will last probably as long as you want to keep the car. I wanted a manual AWD CR-V so bad, but ended up getting an auto FWD because it was a great deal and the car was in excellent condition. Also I did not even see one for sale in my area
. Any who, it now has 160k on it, and still runs and shifts like new.
Manual or auto, its a great car. You will not regret it.

Strangely in the UK 5 speeds are like arseholes, everyone has got one and the autos are rarer!
Me I've got an auto because I always have autos, my Jag and my Pontiac are autos and Lady GMads car is a semi auto, simply because that's how we roll.
I guess it just comes down to personal preference..

On the plus side, no one knows how (or wants) to drive your car! I have seriously given people rides in my other manual cars and they did not even know what it was or what I was doing.
Both are good. I have the manual but if I get another V for a spare ride it will be an automatic so the wife and daughter can drive it. I've had most Hondas and love the first Gen Cr-v. One of my favorites alongside a 1993 Honda Accord. Both a pleasure to drive.
If I actually set out to buy a crv I would have gone 5 speed awd. I have always wanted one, just didn't want to pay the added crv tax over the cost of a civic. A girl I work with had this 2000 auto crv and only wanted $1200 for it. I couldn't pass that up. It's easily a $3k car now with a little work I put into it. I am ecstatic with it and I'm ok being auto. I have an F23 crx manual, turbo ef drag car that's manual, Harley that's manual and my silverado work horse that's manual. It's nice to put it in gear and go to sleep sometimes.
After years of driving a standard truck for work, I always wanted an auto for my daily driver. Then I had an auto let go on my 96 Accord from towing abuse - my fault - now I got an 01 CRV with a 5 spd manual. Got used to it. Kinda like it, but in stop and go traffic it sucks.
I have both manual and auto as well....I gave the auto to my sister, kept the manual. If you plan on making it an enjoyable toy, I'd suggest the manual. I'm not saying you can't do the same to an auto, but you're limited due to the "slushbox".
