Engine Oil Change Capacity/Quantity (D15)
I haven't changed my own oil in years and I'm getting ready to do a thorough tune up on my 92 VX (D15Z1). I was reading through the Helms service manual and noticed in the "Standards and Service Limits" it shows 3.3 (3.5, 2.9) (US qt, Imp qt) for an oil change including filter. (Pictured below)
Now is it 3.3 quarts or 3.5 quarts used in an oil change? My thought is 3.5 quarts total. 3.3 for the engine, 0.2 for the filter.
So should I just put exactly 3.5 quarts in during the oil change?
Second, my engine leaks no oil, except at drain plug because the washer isn't currently installed, would switching to synthetic oil be ok? I'd like to switch to Castrol EDGE. Engine mileage is 225k.

eH.

Should be 3.3 Liters or 3.5 US Quarts.
You can use synthetic if you like. It allows for longer change intervals. Your consumption may go up a little, observe and see how it goes for you. Then do the math and see if it is more economical.
For many it's not economical due to the increased consumption over the longer mileage. Everyone's experience varies from car to car.
