Default Just bought DSM Injectors but does this look ok?

OK well i just bought a set of DSM injectors.

three of them have the black plastic tips broken and one of them is fine.

Is this a problem - i was thinking to just break off the rest of the black plastic tip so nothing falls in the motor.

It wouldnt be a problem if the plastic tip was off right it looks like its just for protection

thanks for all help ahead of time

Yes it would be a problem if you took off all those black housing. It can cause it to leak. Cause there are rubber gaskets that are on the intake manifold where the injectors goes. So when when you remove those it wouldn't seal it up right...

The rubber seals do go up the injector body. I don't see how not having those black things would cause it to leak. It looks to me like it would seat the same way.

THere are two rubber grommets. One for each end of the injector.

They have been in a blown motor. The tips of the injectors get runined. I don't know for sure if it affetcs the spray (i bet it does tho). I would call RCEngineering (310-320-2277) and ask them if they can be repaired. I wouldn't use them like that. Let us know what they say.

I called RC
They are called pencil caps
they are $1.25 each
They can be replaced easily they just pop off
They said it would affect performance of the injector it is just there to protect the needle from damage.

I ordered them anyway

are those DSM 450's? I was wondering how much you paid for them and if you need different clips and or a resistor box. Thanks.

NO NO NO NO. The seals ARE farther up the injector body. I don't know what purpose those black tips serve but they arn't seals of any sort. Call RC and ask them. They recondition DSM injectors all the time.

(BTW, I have a set of DSM injectors (not installed yet) so i'm not just talking outa my *** )

NeXtLeVeL_TyPe_R,
I'm so glad that you started this post....I just bought 450cc dsm injectors from a junk yard...and they had no idea if that little plastic cap would affect performance or not, and they asked around and everywhere told them that would need to be rebuilt, but I didn't think that they would.

At first only one was broken, then the idiot worker there tried to take one of the caps off and ended up breaking it, so then there were 2 broken. They were going to sell me the set for $50, but because two of them were broken, they sold all 4 of them for $20. Oh and I also got a resistor box for $8, but that's another story.

So can I just call up RC and ask for pencil caps? Or is there a part number or something...oh, what is their phone number to call?

Thanks

No Problem

Well the people at RC called me back and said they cant sell me the caps without me sending them in for reconditioning, But since the guy already tippeed me off to that the caps are just for protecting the needle i am gonna take my chances and keep a close eye on them.

I bought a set for $60 with about 30,000 miles on them from an individual on dsmtrader.com.
OBD0 clips plug straight in, but you have to modify the injector a little in order to plug them in to OBD1 clips.
Yes, you need a resistor box.

Are you sure that the pintle caps are only for protection? Just by looking at them, they kind of seem like they might influence the spray pattern. Anyone know for sure?

Oh and anyone know where I could get me some pintle caps?

Damn, I never knew those injectors would be so cheap, I might have to get me some; but what happens if you have injectors that flow too much(like I only needed 310, but those 450's are so cheap)? Can you limit the cc or does the ecu or something do it automatically? Also what is needed to plug those on obd2?

In order to lower the cc you need an afc or you should check into zip's SMC. The SMC is only about $100 from Diablo. Search for SMC on here.
I am not sure about the obd2 clips.

for OBD 2 you need tyo go to a junk yard and cut off obd0 or 1 clips and then cut yours off and splice them in thats what i did when i put in my RC 370's and it works fine.

Now back on the 450's do i need a resitor box or can i solder inline resitors to the injector clip --- it would be alot neater that way i think

Yes you can use the inline resistors, but I would think that it would look more like OE with the box.
