Default 94 accord lx tranny trouble

Replaced tranny with newer model, but still in same group(AOYA to MPJA) all gears work properly except reverse. It will not engage, sounds like to gears spinning fast but opposite bouncing off each other. Is it junk or is there a quickfix.

Verify that the fluid level is full after selecting every gear to purge any air.
If you shift from 1st to reverse does that change anything?

Reverse is controlled via the valve body inside the transmission, no solenoids control the shifting. Fourth gear selector may be stuck, damaged, or the reverse gear/spur gear needs to be replaced.

You may try adding a cleaner/solvent to the fluid after a change to see if that will unstick or clear out any debris that may be jamming the components.

Use to be able to contact a moderator/administrator to change it, but I do not know if they still do that. Might have to just start again fresh with a new account/screen name.

In the Odyssey(maybe prelude?) had the shift indicator mounted to the right side cover, rather than to the shifter. You can unbolt it and toss it. CD chassis Accords do not use them.

What does the sticker(barcode) on the front of the trans say? MPJA? If so then it is an Odyssey transmission.
