Default INFO RE: USDM GRILL PAINTING

I want to paint my grill. It's a '99 Civic CX. Can anyone tell me if it has been factory painted or finished in any way? Is it raw plastic? I need to know so I can properly proceed with this project.

Thanks.

I really tried to word my question to avoid such answers. When looking at the grill, it appears to be bare plastic. That said, it's an original part and is weathered so it may in fact just appear to be so.

Posting a pic would be helpful.........From what i can understand from your description, it sounds like the grill is bare plastic. If you still have doubts you can try sanding it with 320to 400 grit paper and if its paint you'll brake through. (any sand paper grit less than 320 will gouge the plastic) note: You have to sand the grill before you apply plastic adhesion promoter and paint ether way..... good luck

sounds to me like bare plastic, safest way I have found is to use a scuff paste, bulldog makes one, use that with a red/maroon scotch brite pad. scuff good, adhesion promote then paint.
