How much gas does my car hold?
I have been looking everywhere, but everywhere I look it says my 1994 honda accord lx should hold 17 gallons. Some reason my max fill point is 12 gallons. Are there different sizes based on if it is USDM, or JDM?
I have tanked 60+ liters in my 1995 Accord Coupe that is at least 15.85 Gallons.
Are you sure it is full?
Did you try to use a different angle of the filler to fill the tank? sometimes that helps.|

Some cars read high, others read low.
I have a '95 EX coupe, when it is on E it will only take 14 Gallons, there is also a '97 EX sedan, that starts to sputter at 1/8 tank and you will be out of gas before the E.
The float in the tank may no longer have the same buoyancy as it once did, or the arm for the float was bent(possibly during a fuel pump replacement). This will change the angle of the arm in relation to the actual fill of the tank, which in turn is attached to a rheostat that changes the voltage signal to the fuel gauge.
Best to have more in the tank on E rather than less. Fuel pumps use fuel to cool them, if fuel is low it can damage the pump.

FWIW, my coupe was getting close to E so I kept going until the fuel light came on, actually had the gauge going below E. Which I never bother with getting that low. Pulled into to get gas at my normal station/pump. Took 15 gallons.
Okay. Thank you for all the responses! Pretty sure it just isnt reading it right. Will the gas light come on by itself? Or does the gas light come on when the gauge hits E?
On my car when the gas light comes on I have about 3 gallons left. Do this, when the light comes on, have the cashier give you a fill up by giving him a credit card or a $100 deposit. Fill it up. Whatever you get to, subtract it from 17. Odds are it will be around 14 gallons when the light comes on. If you go uphill or downhill with less than a gallon left it will try to stall so fill up a maximum of 1 gallon left.
You can use your trip meter to test out how many miles per gallon you get.
Do this. Fill the car up. Reset the trip meter to 0. Drive about 250 miles. Fill the car up. Divide your exact mileage on the trip meter by however many gallons you filled up. That will be your standard miles per gallon.

I have run the car until the gauge was sitting on empty, and I have never had the light come on. The most I have put in is 14 gal. I keep saying that one day I will put a gal of gas in the trunk and just see how low I can run it, but I never have.
my 96 lx was sitting at an 1/8 tank. filled it up with just under 13 gallons. and it sat above F. I always fit as much in as i can by pulling the filler nozzel as far out as i can until gas runs out a little. might kill the paint but oh well.
i have a 95 lx sedan and the same thing with mine like 3.5 gallons when the light comes on. and when i go to fill up its only about 14 gallons but when doing my research i found that honda did that has some sort of like a reserve.
brother learned a lesson the hard way on a different make by burning out his fuel pump
That is exactly what I did yesterday. Saw this thread and figured, hmm why not see if this light works. Albeit you put another 30miles on past your normal fillup mileage your light will come on. If the light doesn't come on by 40 miles over, just get gas would suck to get stranded and possibly burn up a pump due to low fuel.
