Default Specifics on y8/ b2 mini swap

Ive been searching, cant find specifically what im looking for

- using y8 head, z6 manifold, z6 tb,p28 with jumper, d15b7 dizzy, z6 camgear

1. Do i use 9 b2 head bolts and 1 y8? If so where does the y8 one go?

2. Will my b2 timing belt fit?

3. Which is the correct hg for this setup ( y8 or z6)?

4. If using d15b7 dizzy, what spark wires do i use? Vtec ( z6 or y8, or non vtec b7)?

Need some answers, please, on someone who has done this set up, who knows for sure what to use. Thx

1. Not sure
2. I forget this, the deck height may be differen.t
3. Those are the same. Get a metal OEM one. They both fit iirc
4. Why use the dizzy from the old head? I'm pretty sure you need the VTEC dizzy. Dizzy attaches to the head, use the one that is meant for that head. Same with the wires.

Also, just google next time.

Z6 timing belt
Y8 HG (get one for a 99 Civic Coupe EX from honda, only like $30)
Y8 Plug wires

Also, I would get 2 new block/head dowel pins from honda. Used ones always cause headaches...

1) Y8 bolt goes next to the vtec solenoid (back left) and maybe another on the back right as well.

2) No, but you will use the B2 tensioner. You can use a Z6 or Y8 timing belt. They both have the same 104 tooth count and the head heights are the same.

3) Z6 and y8 hg are the same thing. they used to be different, but Honda stopped making the Z6 version (thicker) and you can only get the thinner Y8 version now. don't cheap out with some Felpro garbage -use OEM.

4) D15B7 is non vtec so don't use that distributor. Vtec distributors are different from non-vtec.
Use the one from the D16Y8 and you will be fine. If you try to use the Z6 distributor, it has a different bolt pattern and will require hack job mods to fit it on the Y8 head.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Is it absolutely necessary to use oem hg from honda? I was thinking of getting one from ebay but now idk...

I dont have a y8 dizzy and i heard the plugs were wierd. I heard the b7 dizzy will fit on a y8 head. I have a sparr z6 dizzy, should i swap out the guts into the b7?

I also heard, to use a d15z1 t beltbecause of the b7 dizzy and the z6 cam gear.
Its pretty confusing to me, i have a b2 belt, z6 and a6...

Z1 belt mhas 103 teeth and everything I have read about it says that it is too tight and whines - not good.
Use the Y8 cam gear and your timing won't be 4.75 degrees off.

No, you can't just swap the guts. You would have to mod it, and it'snot that easy.
Y8 distributor has all the wires. Just switch out to the Y8 connector on your engine harness and it plugs right in. You can buy an adapter for this if you are horrible with wiring.
Look at this. http://www.d-series.org/forums/gener...th-busted.html

OE headgasket is proven good. You -can- use others, but to most people it's not worth the headaches to test out possible garbage parts.

So z1 is no good then.
Well the camgear confuses me, i thought this:
Z6 head, use y8 gear to correct timing
Y8 head use z6 gear...

My friend said b7 dizzy will bolt up and work. Or he said i can source a y8 dizzy shell, and swap the guts, the plugs too, off one of my z6 dizzy.

So then... for my y8 head/b2 block/b7dizzy/z6gear,.. i use z6 belt and y8 hg, and keep my stock tensioner?

The B7 dizzy WILL work, it bolts up perfectly. And there is no difference in vtec vs non-vtec distributors. Urban myth.

Also the Y8 dizzy is OBD-2. where as the B7 is OBD-1.

Ok. The difference is in the plugs right, so do i get y8 vtec dizzy plug wires( because of the y8 valve cover?) Or can z6 ones be used as well?( because theyre obd1?)

If you use a b7 dizzy (obd1), then you need obd1 dizzy plugs.ANY dizzy plugs from any 92-95 honda with a 4 cylinder will work.

Urban myth... CYP sensor will be 180* off. Sure, it will run, but not right.
You may get a code 9 and even if you don't, fuel timing will be off. Read through the link.
There are even recent confirmations that it makes a difference.

Man that link with the cyp being 180 deg off mind boggled me. People posted that it worked and no real 100% answer was proven right. From what i gathered it could work, like some people use a6 dizzy on y8 head, but stayed obd0. So i figured i could use a b7 since it bolts up, and stay obd1 because of the p28 ecu... but that whole cyp thing has me doubting...

Actually i think the guy that took the pic of the 2 dizzys is wrong. I just compared my z6 dizzy with my b7, and the markings are the same
