Default New crv owner question...

So I picked up an '01 CRV for cheap and I'm putting an 96+ OBD2 GSR engine in it, I bought the 97 GSR m/t ECU for the engine (37820-P72-A03 OBD2A) my question is will this ecu work fine with the engine or does it have to be modified in any way? any help is appreciated guys

You bought the wrong ecu. The ecu is obd2a and the car is obd2b. Now you will need a jumper harness as well to be able to plug in the ecu.

2000 and 2001

Even with a gsr ecu you are still going to have some wiring to do to get vtec to work.

ok, and yeah i understand there's wiring to get vtec to work. Thanks for your help I'll shop around for either the right ecu or a jumper harness

one more question lol from what I've read the OBD2b ecu has an immobilizer that I guess wouldn't be compatible with my CRV and if removed would probably throw a code. If I ran the OBD2a ecu (which I believe does not contain an immobilizer) with a jumper harness would that work?

Use the one you bought. If you use the 00-01 it has the immobilizer. Just get an adapter harness. Then you'll need to wire in VTEC, knock and the IABs.

ok thanks for replying. Am I going to have to wire the IAB directly to the ecu because I see no plug on the crv wire harness for it

do you have emissions in your state where you need an obd2 ecu?

if not you are much better off with a chipped obd1 ecu with an adapter harness for it to plug right in. then get it tuned for your setup. you can disable vtec oil pressure so you only have to add 1 wire for vtec

if you do need an obd2 ecu for state emissions, then stick with your obd2a ecu, get an obd2b-obd2a adapter harness. then you will need to run a vtec solinoid wire, vtec oil pressure wires, knock sensor wires, and iab wires. you will have to run them all the way to the ecu, the crv doesnt have any provisions for any of those wires.

I'm in NY so yeah I need an obd2 ecu to get inspected I'm just hoping i don't fail for not having the right ecu for the vehicle. We wired up everything and it's running fine with no lights. I guess I'll find out when I bring it to get inspected.
